Congress Mulls Permanent Net Tax Ban
Congress started debates in Jan. over how to tax the Internet and how to permanently prevent such fees. Rep. Chris Cox (R-Calif.) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), introduced a bill called the Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act, renewing their efforts to transform what is currently a moratorium on Internet sales taxes into an outright ban. .BIZ Domain Name Operators Settle Suit
Operators of the ".biz" domain name have agreed to refund the "nonrefundable" application fees it had collected as part of the initial awarding of names in 2001. Radio disc jockey David Smiley and other applicants had filed a class-action lawsuit accusing NeuLevel Inc. of running an illegal lottery because losers do not get their applications fees returned.
