Re-purposing the .IQ country code, is that Intelligent?
Iraq's media commission and the U.S.-led administration in Iraq want to set up Web addresses using the ccTLD ".IQ". They indicate this would enable the people of Iraq to stake their claim in cyberspace. Currently the ccTLD is being managed by a company in Texas. In spite of the obvious marketing opportunity, no site is readily available for access. Read more.

Solis Corporation, also known as Japan Registry, received their accreditation, from ICANN. Previously they have been providing registrars world wide with .jp. Their resellers and can now offer the desirable .com names locally to the Japanese market. Read more.

ICANN UPDATE
ICANN Considering 10 New Domains
"Live long and prosper", seems to be the prime directive handed to Domain Name users as ICANN begins the process of approving additional top level domain extensions. The new gTLD's include .asia, .cat, .jobs, .mail, .mobi, .post, .tel, .travel and .xxx. Read more
Not everyone is in agreement with the move, Berners-Lee recently wrote a white paper criticizing the domain name expansion, "New Top-Level Domains Considered Harmful." On May 14, the W3C Technical Advisory Group resolved to support the document. (Berners-Lee has been called the Father of the Internet). The paper can be seen at: www.w3.org/DesignIssues/TLD

Verisign Comes Up Short In Anti-Trust Suit Against ICANN
June 7 was the new date for Verisign to file additional information to make the case that ICANN has exceeded its authority. The suit stems from ICANN's order for Verisign to shut down their Site Finder system which redirected unresolved queries to their own marketing directories. Read more
